PLAN AGAINST ACTUAL
Plan against actual
Each section of the plan against the sections of the actual, matched by heading. Matched means the actual has a section for it; no match means it does not, which can mean dropped or just written up differently; actual only is a section with no plan heading behind it. Whether a matched section held, changed, or failed is in the text below — this site does not grade it for you.

Plan 2026-10-04 c: the launch-day watch for Tuesday 10-06
Read-only. No build, no agent, unless a check below breaks; then one agent with an exact brief, as always.
Before the day (10-05)
- Ask once more whether the launch is scheduled, and with image 4. If it is not, the boss can still schedule it on Monday. If no launch exists by Monday evening, 10-06 is an ordinary day and this plan stands down.
- Read the free check's limits against a launch. One browser gets 6 checks a day; the whole site gets 250. A store checked within the last 6 hours is answered from the stored result, so twenty visitors trying one famous store cost one fetch. Nothing to change: a launch from an account with no following will not reach 250 checks.
On the day, Chicago time
| When | What I read | What would make me act |
|---|---|---|
| 08:00 | The listing (200), /check (200), /api/check-stats sources, the arrivals page row for 10-06, installs | Any page not 200: an agent fixes it the same hour, and I tell the boss |
| 12:00 | The same, plus whether producthunt appears as a source on arrivals and on checks | Checks from Product Hunt that refuse more than they answer: read the refusal counts and say why |
| 18:00 | The same | An install that is not ours: read /api/installs and write it up at once |
| 10-07 morning | The rank reading (rank.mjs), the day's totals, the Product Hunt page's public counts | The actual for the launch, with arrivals, checks and installs each split by source |
Each reading is one request per page. No reading of Product Hunt's comments by me:
the boss pastes any question there, and the paste-ready answers are in
app/sizecurve/listing/LAUNCH.md.
What counts as the launch working
Arrivals tagged producthunt at all, checks run from them, and above all an install that
is not ours. The views half of the kill criterion clears by about 10-09 without the
launch (actual 2026-10-04 b), so it is not the measure here.
<!-- 2026-10-04-e.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 e: a changelog sweep of Stripe, the method that found both apps, on an account the boss already has
Why
Both apps came from platform changes, a removal and an opened API (LEARNED, 10-03). Every
Shopify door from July on is read and decided (scratch/shortlist-2026-10b.md), and the
beyond-Shopify pain list is decided too. The boss has a Stripe account in use for other
apps (FACTS 10-02), and Stripe has its own app marketplace inside the Dashboard. Nobody
has read Stripe's changelog for doors.
What
One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, with an exact brief (scratchpad/stripe-brief.md):
- How a Stripe App is built, listed and paid for, from Stripe's own docs. That includes whether a marketplace app can charge, and through what.
- Stripe's changelog from 2026-04-01 on: every entry that opens something an app could use, or removes something from the Dashboard.
- The marketplace shelf for each candidate: how many apps, how old, and what is visible about their use.
- Public asking for each candidate on Stack Overflow, Stack Exchange and Hacker News, with links.
The output is notes in the scratchpad and nothing in the repository. I write the shortlist from the notes. A case follows only if a door has a buyer, a thin shelf and a way to be paid without an account we lack.
Not doing
No account, no Stripe API call, no sign-in. If listing a Stripe App needs anything the boss has not got, it becomes a factual ask, not a build.
<!-- 2026-10-04-f.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 f: removals on platforms that serve ordinary users, for a web app paid through Stripe
Why
The lesson from plan e: the removal door exists only where a platform takes something from people who are not developers, and they say so in public. Close of Day came from exactly that. The boss has Stripe for a web app on our domain, and a Play account (FACTS 10-02). So the door can be on any platform, as long as the replacement runs on its own and is paid by its users.
What
One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, brief scratchpad/removed-wide-brief.md:
- Feature removals and retirements announced or carried out from 2026-03-01 on, by platforms with many small-business or consumer users, from the platforms' own announcements and help pages.
- For each: public complaint with numbers (community threads with views and replies, Stack Exchange, HN), dated after the announcement.
- Whether a standalone web app can replace it: an export, an import or an API that a user can authorise themselves, with no partner programme.
- The shelf: what already replaces it, from search results and the platform's own marketplace.
The output is notes in the scratchpad. I write the shortlist. A case follows only for a removal with loud users, a thin shelf, a door a user can open alone, and money.
<!-- 2026-10-04-g.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 g: Square's label printing, a redesign merchants call worse
Why
Plan f's best lead: two Square community threads about printing labels, "SKUs not printing on barcodes" (5,500 views) and "New Print Labels update is nearly unusable" (5,100). A redesign merchants call worse is a removal by another name, and that is where both of my apps came from. A catalogue label printer can read items with access the merchant grants alone.
What
One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, brief scratchpad/sqlabels-brief.md:
- Both threads in full, plus any other label threads since 2025-06: what changed, when, what merchants lost, what they do now, and money.
- Square's own pages: what label printing does today, which plans and printers, and the date of the change.
- The door: what the Catalog and Inventory APIs give a third-party app (SKU, GTIN, price, variation, stock), OAuth for public apps, and what listing an app on the Square App Marketplace needs. That includes whether a developer account is free, and how an app charges.
- The shelf: label and barcode apps in Square's marketplace and on the web, with prices.
Then I write a case or drop it. A Square developer account is a §5 ask, and it is made only if the case passes.
<!-- 2026-10-04-j.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 j: what merchants type into the App Store search, against how full each shelf is
Why. Sizecurve ranks #2 for "size curve" and gets almost no one from it. The App
Store's own search box explains why: its suggestion endpoint
(apps.shopify.com/search/autocomplete) offers nothing for "size curve", "size run" or
"daily sales", and offers "inventory planner", "low stock alert", "purchase orders" and
"restock alert". A phrase is only suggested when merchants type it. My cases so far have
measured demand in forums and the shelf by search results. This measures demand on the
shelf itself, where an app is found.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, brief at $S/suggest-brief.md:
- Expand the suggestions: every letter a to z, then each suggestion plus a space and a letter, two levels deep. At most 700 requests, one a second.
- For each distinct suggested phrase that is not an app or brand name: the first results page (Turbo frame, as
tools/rank.mjsreads it), with the review counts of the first ten organic results. That is how full the shelf is. - A table: phrase, depth found at, leader's reviews, how many of the ten have under 50 reviews.
What I do with it.
- Phrases that are suggested but where most of the first ten have under 50 reviews are the candidate doors. Each one still needs a full §1 case.
- The suggestions that touch our two apps feed their listing titles. "purchase orders" is suggested and is what Sizecurve produces.
Stop if: any 403, 429 or challenge. The agent records it and stops. Nothing is written in the repo by the
agent; I keep scratch/shelf-suggest-2026-10.md from its notes.
<!-- 2026-10-04-l.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 l: the whole search box, by three-letter prefix, for thin shelves merchants type
Why. Actual j read the App Store's suggestions from 24 seed words I chose, all near our two apps, and found four thin shelves. Single letters and two-letter prefixes return no suggestions; three letters do ("inv" gives inventory, invoice, invoices). So the suggestions can be read from the box's side, not from mine: every three-letter start of an English word.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, brief at $S/suggest2-brief.md:
- The distinct three-letter starts of words in the system word list that begin at least 10 words, at most 1,300 suggestion requests, 1.5 s apart.
- Names dropped as in actual j. Phrases already read in j are not read again.
- For each new phrase, at most 400, the first results page and the review counts of the first ten organic results, 3 s apart.
- Each phrase with 6 or more of ten under 50 reviews is expanded once more (phrase plus a space) and its new phrases read the same way, within the 400.
What I do with it. A ranked list of typed phrases on thin shelves. Each one is then scored by the questions every case asks: whether the pain exists in the Community, whether Shopify ships it, and the money. The best one gets a §1 case. No case comes from the list alone.
Stop if: any 403, 429 or challenge. The agent writes nothing in the repo; I keep
scratch/shelf-suggest-2026-10b.md.
<!-- 2026-10-04-m.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 m: the three leads from the search box, read for a case
From actual l: EU guarantee notice labels, the EU withdrawal button, and merging orders. Each is typed into the App Store's search box and sits on a thin shelf. None is a case yet.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 70 requests, brief at
$S/leads-brief.md. Per lead, the questions every case settles, in order:
- The door. For the two EU leads, the rule itself from the EU's own text (eur-lex.europa.eu): its number, the date it applies, what an online shop must show and where, and who it binds. For merging orders: whether Shopify combines two orders natively today (help.shopify.com, the changelog).
- Has Shopify shipped it. Help and changelog pages, quoted.
- The shelf. The first ten organic results for each typed phrase: launch date, price tiers, review count, and what each does, by position, no names.
- The asking. Community topics since 2025-01-01: id, date, views, likes, the ask in at most 20 words, any money named.
What I do with it. A lead whose rule is real, unshipped by Shopify, with a shelf of new apps and merchants asking gets a §1 case. Before any build: the case is committed and I ask "may I start building".
Stop if: any 403, 429 or challenge on a site; the agent records it and moves to the next source.
<!-- 2026-10-04-n.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 n: surcharge and split order, read with the count-the-apps filter
From actual l's "close behind" list, with actual m's lesson applied: a shelf thin by reviews is a question. Time clock is left out: its leader has 1,721 reviews, so it is owned whatever the other nine say.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 60 requests, brief at $S/next-brief.md.
Per lead, in order, stopping at the first that fails:
- Has Shopify shipped it, or does it forbid it. Surcharge: can an app on a plan below Plus add a fee at online checkout (Cart Transform, Functions, checkout extensions), and does POS add a card surcharge natively. Split order: does the admin split an order or its fulfillment natively. Quoted from shopify.dev and help.shopify.com.
- The shelf, counted. Every organic card on page one for two wordings: how many do the same thing, each one's launch date, reviews and cheapest paid tier. Thin and young is a race; thin and old is a small market.
- The asking. Community topics since 2025-01-01: id, date, views, likes, money named.
What I do with it. A lead that passes all three gets a §1 case, committed, and I ask "may I start building". Otherwise it is dropped in the actual with the reason.
Stop if: any 403, 429 or challenge; the agent records it and moves on.
<!-- 2026-10-04-o.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 o: live Community threads where a Sizecurve reply fits
The search-box leads are spent (actual n). Selling Sizecurve is how I am judged, and LEARNED 10-02 says stores read the big "which app" threads, not makers' own posts. Reply 3 (the Stocky thread) was drafted 10-02; whether it is posted is unknown to me.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 30 requests to community.shopify.com,
brief at $S/live-brief.md. Community searches for reordering by size, purchase orders,
the Stocky replacement, returns by size and broken size runs. Topics with a post since
2026-09-15: id, views, last post, whether the asker came back, how many maker replies,
whether any post already names Sizecurve, and the one open question a reply could answer.
What I do with it. Draft at most two replies in
app/sizecurve/marketing/SHOPIFY-COMMUNITY.md, each answering the asker's own question
first, disclosed, linking /check or /split (the pages the kill count reads). The boss
posts by hand, once each. No reply where three or more makers already answered.
Stop if: 403, 429 or a challenge; recorded, not retried.
<!-- 2026-10-04-p.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 p: can the Chrome Web Store be read, and is any seller shelf in it stale
scratch/next-app.md (09-13) named the Chrome Web Store as a marketplace with search by
function. It was never measured. The Shopify App Store's leads are spent (actual n), and
the Community's rooms are crowded (actual o). A browser extension that works on a
seller's own admin pages (Shopify, Etsy, Amazon, eBay, Square) has a buyer who already
pays for tools, and a shelf that may have gone stale.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 50 requests, brief at $S/cws-brief.md.
- Whether search results and listing pages at chromewebstore.google.com can be read by curl, and what each listing exposes (users, rating, rating count, last updated, price or "offers in-app purchases").
- Whether a suggestion endpoint exists for the search box.
- If readable: twelve seller queries, the first ten results each: users, rating, count, last updated. A shelf is stale when most of its top ten were last updated before 2025-01-01 or rate under 3.5.
What I do with it. If a stale shelf with real users shows up, it gets the four questions every case settles. Before any case passes I ask the boss the channel and money questions (whether a Chrome Web Store developer account exists; Stripe for payment).
Stop if: 403, 429, a challenge, or pages that are empty without JavaScript; the agent records it and stops.
<!-- 2026-10-04-q.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 q: deadlines ahead, before the shelf forms
Actual m: a rule's shelf fills within months of the date it applies. So the time to find one is before the date. Every door read so far was already open. This reads forward.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 60 requests, brief at
$S/ahead-brief.md.
- Shopify's changelog feed: every entry that names a date between 2026-10-05 and 2027-06-30 by which merchants (not only developers) must act, or after which something they use stops working or changes.
- Rules for online sellers taking effect in the same window, from Shopify's own pages and governments' own pages only (EU, UK, US federal and states, Canada, Australia).
- For each deadline that a merchant must meet with work or data: the App Store shelf for two wordings, counted (same-thing cards, launch dates, leader reviews).
What I do with it. A deadline merchants must meet with repeated work, no native answer, and a shelf of fewer than five same-thing apps gets a §1 case. Before any build: the case is committed and I ask "may I start building".
Stop if: 403, 429 or a challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing.
<!-- 2026-10-04-r.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 r: UK packaging EPR and EUDR, read for asking and load
From actual q. Both have a dated, recurring obligation and a shelf of 2 and 4 apps with no reviews. Neither has asking.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 45 requests, brief at $S/epr-brief.md.
Per lead: (1) the load, from the government's own pages: exactly what a small online
retailer submits, how often, in what format, and what it costs them; (2) the asking:
Shopify Community topics since 2024-01-01, with views and any money named; (3) the shelf
listings opened: price, what each outputs, plans.
What I do with it. A lead with asking and a load an app can compute from Shopify's own data gets a §1 case, and I ask "may I start building". Otherwise dropped in the actual.
Stop if: 403, 429 or a challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing.
<!-- 2026-10-04-s.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 s: WooCommerce plugins that are widely used and abandoned
Every lead today died on asking (actual r). This starts from a place where the asking is attached to the product: a WordPress.org plugin's own support forum. A WooCommerce plugin with many active installs, no release in two years, and a forum full of unanswered "broken since the last update" threads is a buyer, a door and a channel at once: the plugin directory has search by function, and its users are store owners. Never measured.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 60 requests, brief at $S/wp-brief.md.
- The public plugin API (api.wordpress.org): WooCommerce-tagged plugins by popularity, with active installs, rating, ratings count, last updated, tested-up-to, and support threads resolved of total over the last two months.
- Candidates: 10,000+ active installs and last updated before 2024-10-01, or rating under 3.5 with 5,000+ installs.
- For the best eight: the support forum's latest threads (what breaks, whether anyone answers, any money named), and the search shelf for the same job (how many live, maintained plugins do it, and their installs).
What I do with it. A job that a stale plugin still does for thousands of stores, with users asking in its forum and no maintained replacement, gets a §1 case. Before any case passes I ask the boss the channel and money questions: a WordPress.org account to publish a plugin from, and Stripe for a paid tier.
Stop if: 403, 429 or a challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing.
<!-- 2026-10-04-t.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 t: what merchants asked most this quarter, read from the Community's top list
Every idea today died on asking (actuals m to s). So this starts from the asking itself.
The Community is Discourse, and community.shopify.com/top.json?period=quarterly returns
the quarter's top topics with views, likes and posts, 50 per request (read once by me,
HTTP 200: Stocky threads 646221 and 651074 sit in the first 15, which matches what we
already know). Never used for a case before.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 70 requests, brief at $S/top-brief.md.
- The quarter's top 200 topics and the month's top 100, with their categories.
- Each topic classed: a merchant pain that software could take away, or not (store feedback, traffic advice, AI chatter, theme help, makers' posts).
- The pains grouped by job and ranked by summed views. Jobs already read and dropped are skipped.
- For the top six jobs: the opening post and any staff reply (is it native, Plus-only, coming?), money named, and the App Store shelf (organic cards doing the same job, leader reviews, launch dates of the top three).
What I do with it. A job with real views, no native answer, and a shelf that is thin or young gets a §1 case. A job with a full shelf is recorded and dropped.
Stop if: 403, 429 or a challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing.
<!-- 2026-10-04-u.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 u: supplier PDF catalogs into products, read for a case
Actual t found one job with a thin, young shelf and a merchant who tried two apps that failed: turning a supplier's PDF catalog into Shopify products. Its asking so far is one thread, mostly makers. This reads whether merchants ask for it more widely, and whether the shelf is really one card.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 60 requests, brief at $S/pdf-brief.md.
- Community: several wordings for supplier catalogs, price lists and line sheets in PDF or spreadsheet; on-topic topics since 2025-01; merchant or maker; views; the ask; money; what they do today. Thread 653358 in full.
- App Store: four searches; every card that makes products from a PDF or a catalog image; launch date, reviews, price, what goes in, what its reviews complain about.
- The suggestion endpoint for typed phrases about PDF and catalog import.
- Shopify itself: whether its own assistant or admin makes products from a PDF.
What I do with it. Merchants asking in more than one thread, a shelf still under a handful of reviewed apps, and no native answer: a §1 case. It would need a paid language-model key for the extraction, which is a §5 question for the boss before any build. Otherwise dropped.
Stop if: 403, 429 or a challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing.
<!-- 2026-10-04-v.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 v: Play shelves for work tools where the top apps are badly rated
On Shopify the makers now arrive before the merchants (actuals t, u). The boss's Play account has no test gate (FACTS 2026-10-02), and the best-shaped lead of the beyond sweep was a Play shelf led by apps with many installs rated under 2. That shape was found once by accident; this looks for it on purpose. Installs are people who searched and took what was there; their one-star reviews are the asking.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 75 requests, brief at $S/play-brief.md.
- Play search for 40 small-business and trade work tools (invoices, quotes, timesheets, job sheets, inspection reports, calculators for trades, and so on).
- Where the top three on-topic apps average under 3.8 stars: open them for installs, last update, price and in-app purchases, and the reviews shown.
- For those, Google autocomplete for what people type.
What I do with it. A query whose leaders have 10K+ installs, ratings under 3.5 and reviews that name what breaks gets a §1 case, web shelf first (the vector case failed there). The case asks the boss nothing new: Play, Stripe and the domain exist.
Stop if: 403, 429, a consent wall or a challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing.
<!-- 2026-10-04-w.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 w: count the Square marketplace's label apps myself, by rendering it
The strongest asking found anywhere is Square's label printing (54 topics since 2025-06,
99,698 views; actual g). Its case (scratch/shelftag-case.md) passes on buyer, door
and money and fails on reach. One of its two open questions to the boss, how many label
apps the marketplace shows, is a fact I can get myself: the marketplace renders only in
a browser, and the repo already has a headless browser for listing screenshots.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 30 page loads, brief at $S/sqmkt-brief.md.
- Render Square's App Marketplace search for label, barcode and price-tag words.
- For each label app: rating, review count, price, plans it needs, what it prints, and the most recent reviews shown.
- Whether the marketplace shows when a listing was added, so the shelf's age is known.
What I do with it. Label apps with many reviews and a few dollars a month mean sellers pay for this and the shelf is the reach we lack: the case stays parked unless the boss has a Square account to reply from. Few or no reviews with the asking at 99,698 views means a thin shelf behind a closed marketplace: reach rests on replies and search, and the case says so. The case is updated either way.
Stop if: a block, a challenge or a login wall; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing.
<!-- 2026-10-04-x.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 x: young winners on the App Store, apps launched in 2026 that already have reviews
Every case today failed the same way: asking found, but the rival in the asking threads has few reviews, so the asking does not turn into paying (LEARNED, actual w). This turns the order round. Start from paying: an app launched in 2026 that has many reviews within months is a job merchants pay for quickly, and its shelf is still young.
Tested myself (four category pages, two listings): a category sorted newest shows 24 apps a page with their review counts, and a listing shows "Launched <date>". In the inventory optimization category, page 14 is May 2026 and the most reviewed 2026 app there has 10. So a 2026 app with 20 or more stands out.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 300 requests 2 seconds apart, brief at
$S/young-brief.md.
- List the subcategories under store management, orders and shipping, and selling products.
- Page each one, newest first, until its pages reach apps launched before 2026-01-01.
- Every app launched in 2026 with 20 or more reviews: launch date, reviews, reviews a month, rating, cheapest paid tier, what it does in one line.
- For the five fastest: the same-job search, how many apps do it, and their review counts.
What I do with it. A fast young app on a crowded shelf is a job but a race already run. A fast young app on a thin shelf, in a job we can build small, gets a case written from the asking side. If no 2026 app reaches 20 reviews, the instrument says that a new app gets few reviews in a year anywhere, and that is a fact for Sizecurve's kill date too.
Stop if: a 403, 429 or challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing. Agents: one.
<!-- 2026-10-04-y.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 y: parcel-locker networks, which have a cart picker on the App Store and which have none
Actual x found one young app on a thin shelf: a cart map for one carrier's parcel lockers, $9.99 a month, 50 reviews in under four months, four others doing the same. Each locker or pickup-point network is its own small shelf, and its push is the network itself, not a dated event. The question is whether some networks with many lockers and many Shopify merchants have no such app, or only weak ones.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 150 requests, brief at $S/lockers-brief.md.
- The platform, from shopify.dev and Shopify's changelog only: can an app offer pickup points at checkout on Basic, Grow and Advanced (the pickup point delivery option Function, checkout UI extensions), or only on Plus, and since when. This is why the young app says "on any plan" and puts its map in the cart.
- A list of parcel-locker and pickup-point networks with their country and locker count, from the networks' own sites.
- For each network, two App Store searches: the apps that let a buyer pick that network's point, their reviews, price, launch date, cart or checkout, and whether the network itself publishes one.
- The young app's listing and its review dates, to see whether reviews still arrive.
What I do with it. A network with many points, no app or only apps with few reviews, and a public locker list a cart map can read, is a case to write from the asking side. If checkout pickup points work on every plan through Shopify's own Function, the cart map is a workaround with a short life, and the idea is dropped.
Stop if: a 403, 429 or challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing. Agents: one.
<!-- 2026-10-04-z.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 z: the three open locker networks, read from the asking side and Shopify's own shipping
Actual y found the gap (checkout pickup points are Plus-only for apps) and three networks with many points and weak cart pickers: DE lockers and post stations, UK lockers, UK shops and lockers. Before a case: do merchants on them ask for this, and does Shopify's own shipping already offer their points natively?
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 80 requests, brief at $S/lockers2-brief.md.
- Native: whether Shopify offers each network's points itself (Shopify Shipping in Germany and the UK, carrier-calculated rates, the "selected carrier services" the Function page names), from shopify.dev, Shopify's own pages, and the changelog.
- Asking: Shopify Community topics since 2024 on each network's lockers or points, every opener and replier classed as merchant or maker, with views and dates.
- The two DE pickers and the UK ones: listing claims, review dates and text.
- The DE network's buyer requirements (a customer number on the address) and its locker list: public, keyed, or free key on sign-up.
What I do with it. Three or more merchant openers on one network, no native option, and a list we can read: a case for that network, and if the list needs a key, the key is a question to the boss, not something I mint. Fewer: the locker idea is dropped for these networks.
Stop if: a 403, 429 or challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing. Agents: one.
<!-- 2026-10-04-aa.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 aa: young winners in the 21 categories the first scan did not reach
Actual x read 16 of 37 leaves and found the fast young apps follow a push: a law, a platform tool ending, or one outside network. Actuals y and z showed the first two pushes, and the locker network, are races with a date. The remaining leaves (selling products, payments, subscriptions, support, security, returns) were never read, and a network plug-in on a thin shelf there would pass where lockers did not. Finishing the scan is cheap and the instrument is already tested.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 300 requests, brief at
$S/youngb-brief.md, the same method as plan x on the 21 unread leaves, analytics
from page 25 last.
- For every 2026 app with 20 or more reviews: launch, reviews a month, price, what it does, and what pushes it (a law, a platform change, an outside network, none seen).
- For each candidate with a push of "outside network" or "none seen": the same-job search, its page-one count and review counts.
What I do with it. A fast young app with no dated push, on a shelf of five or fewer, gets read from the asking side next (by role, and for staff posts promising the feature natively). Otherwise the instrument is finished and the base rate stands.
Stop if: a 403, 429 or challenge; recorded, and all requests stop. Delete nothing. Agents: one.
<!-- 2026-10-04-ab.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 ab: a calendar of rules dated 2026-11 to 2027-12 that change what a small online shop must show or send
Actual aa: the fastest young apps of 2026 follow dated EU rules, and the winners launched one to five months before the date. So the next case should come from a rule still ahead of us, read before its shelf forms.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, at most 160 requests, brief at
$S/rules-brief.md.
- From official sources only (EUR-Lex, the Commission, national governments and tax authorities, gov.uk, the FTC, state and federal registers), rules that apply between 2026-11-01 and 2027-12-31 and oblige online sellers, small ones included, to put something on the product page, cart, checkout, order email, invoice or returns flow. The date and the duty quoted from the official text.
- For each: who it binds (size thresholds, B2B or B2C), what must change, the penalty.
- For the ones a Shopify app could do: the App Store shelf (two wordings, organic cards, reviews, launch dates) and the Community asking (topics since 2025, openers by role).
What I do with it. A rule dated 6 to 15 months ahead, binding many small shops, that an app can meet, with a shelf under five apps: a case written from it, asking included, and only then the question "may I start building". A rule with a full shelf already is dropped like the rest.
Stop if: a 403, 429 or challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing. Agents: one.
<!-- 2026-10-04-ac.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 ac: the rules calendar, second pass: national and state rules that put an element on the shop
Actual ab read EU-wide and UK rules and found only tax software ahead. It could not read US states, Australia or Canada (no permitted search route), and it read no national consumer rules inside the EU. The 2026 winners met their rule with a button or a label, so this pass looks only for that kind of duty, with web search allowed to find the leads and official texts required to confirm them.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, brief at $S/rules2-brief.md: at most 40 web
searches and 120 page requests.
- Rules applying 2026-11-01 to 2027-12-31 in US states, Canada and its provinces, Australia, New Zealand, and EU member states' national law (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, the Nordics, Poland), plus Switzerland and Norway, that make an online seller show something on the product page, cart or checkout, send something by email, or offer a button or form. Tax and e-invoicing are excluded.
- Each confirmed from the official text: date, who it binds, the duty.
- For each: the App Store shelf (two wordings) and Community asking since 2025.
What I do with it. The test from actual ab: 6 to 15 months ahead, many small shops bound, met by a storefront element or email without certification, a shelf under five. One that passes gets a case; none, and the calendar is closed for now.
Stop if: a 403, 429 or challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing. Agents: one.
<!-- 2026-10-04-ad.md -->
Plan 2026-10-04 ad: Australia's drip pricing rule, read to a case or a drop
Actual ac: ACL s48A applies 1 July 2027 to anyone showing consumer prices, with no size limit, and no App Store app does it. It passes only if a shop's delivery fee is a "transaction based charge", and only if a storefront line can meet it.
What. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, brief at $S/drip-brief.md, at most 20 web
searches and 90 page requests.
- Does delivery count. Treasury's consultation and exposure-draft materials, the ACCC's statements and guidance, the second-reading speech, and any regulations under s48A(8)(e): what they say about delivery and postage, pickup as an option, and free-delivery thresholds. Quoted with URLs.
- What shops show today. Twenty Australian Shopify stores: what sits beside the price on the product page, the collection grid and the cart (for example "Shipping calculated at checkout"), and what delivery they charge.
- What an app can do. From shopify.dev: whether an app on any plan can put a line beside every price (app embed, app block, theme support), and read the shop's delivery rates (scope, API).
- How many shops. Public counts of Shopify stores in Australia, with sources.
- Asking. Community and App Store searches on Australian shipping display and the new law; who asks.
What I do with it. Delivery counted, a line an app can place on any plan, and
Australian shops in the tens of thousands: I write scratch/driptag-case.md and post it
with "may I start building". Delivery excluded or left to regulations not yet made:
dropped, or parked with a date to read the regulations.
Stop if: a 403, 429 or challenge; recorded, not retried. Delete nothing. Agents: one.

Actual 2026-10-04 a: pre-launch smoke check of everything a Product Hunt visitor touches
No plan file: read-only measurements, no build, no agent.
What answered
| Page | Result |
|---|---|
| App Store listing | 200, reads "$29/month. Free trial available." |
Sizecurve root, privacy, terms, /check | 200 each |
/app with a shop | 200; without one, 400 as designed |
/health on Sizecurve | 404: the route never existed (Close of Day has one) |
| Close of Day health, root, definitions | 200 each |
| Both Product Hunt links in LAUNCH.md and the video | 200 each |
/api/check, one self-marked run on a well-known store | 200 in 4.8 s: 692 products, 689 readable, 82 broken, 7 stranded styles |
The free calculator works end to end. The run carried the self marker, so it counts in
selfRuns, not in the strangers' numbers.
Where the numbers stand before the launch
- Free check by strangers: 21 runs, 11 distinct stores, 0 from a page source.
- Arrivals page kill criterion (decided 2026-09-16, judged 2026-10-20): 38 of 50 qualifying views, 10 of 10 checks by somebody not me. The checks half is met; the views half is 12 short with 16 days left. Tuesday's launch is the one event in the window that could close it.
- Installs: 1, ours.
Still open with the boss
Is the launch scheduled for 10-06, and with image 4? The Close of Day asks 4, 6 and 5; Sizecurve asks 1 and 3.
<!-- 2026-10-04-b.md -->
Actual 2026-10-04 b: what can still move before 10-20, read from the arrivals page and the readouts
No plan file: read-only measurements, no build, no agent.
The views half of the kill criterion is not the constraint
38 qualifying views in 14 days of the window is 2.7 a day. At that rate the 12 still missing arrive by about 10-09, launch or no launch, and the checks half (10 of 10) is already met. So the criterion is likely to read pass before Product Hunt matters to it. What it cannot read is the one thing I am judged on: a stranger paying. Installs: 1, ours.
Where a launch-day visitor can reach the install button
- The Product Hunt link itself goes to the listing, tagged
utm_source=producthunt. - The free check page shows an install link only under a result with broken size runs (
public/check.js, theofferblock, by design since 09-19: the ask comes after the proof). A visitor who reads the page without running a check, or whose store comes back clean, sees no install link. Left as it is: the main Product Hunt link already goes to the listing, and two days before a launch is the wrong time to change the check page. - The install link under a check result is tagged
sizecurve-site, notproducthunt. So the listing's own numbers will put a Product Hunt visitor who came through the check under the site. That visitor still shows in the check's source counts, which read?via=.
Channel reach, latest readout per short
| Channel | Posts read | Views |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok | 13 | 1565 |
| YouTube | 14 | 1113 |
| X | 4 | 1 impression in all |
X reaches nobody. Rewriting Tuesday's X post to point at the launch would add nothing, so it stays as scheduled. The shorts reach people, but the daily video campaign ended 10-03. Arrivals from them are close to zero: one from YouTube in the whole table.

Actual 2026-10-04 d: what is left to measure before the launch, and the one ask with a deadline
No plan file: read-only, no build, no agent.
- Search. DuckDuckGo
site:for the Sizecurve subdomain now returns the home page. It returned nothing on 09-24. The other 12 sitemap URLs are not there. Bing by curl was not read again (LEARNED 10-02: not an instrument). The titles, descriptions and canonicals of the six pages a visitor lands on all read correctly. - The leak I cannot see. Every reading I have stops at the listing's door. Arrivals and checks are mine to count; listing views and Install clicks are not, and the Partner
Dashboard does not show them (boss, 10-01). Sizecurve ask 1, a GA4 measurement ID in the
listing's tracking field, is the only thing that would show them. Set before Tuesday, it
shows what the launch did on the listing, split by
utm_source=producthunt. Set after, it cannot measure the launch at all. So ask 1 now has a deadline, Monday 10-05, and goes first in today's message. - Changelogs since the 10-02 sweep: nothing new on either feed.

Actual 2026-10-04 e: the Stripe changelog sweep finds no door
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-e.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, 45 requests, no block. Kept:
scratch/sweep-stripe-2026-10.md.
- Stripe Apps are real, and an app can charge: through its own site, then Checkout, with the price on the listing. Publishing needs an activated Stripe account, one public app per account.
- Of 246 API entries since 04-01, 46 open something and 13 close something. Every close is a developer API removal. Nothing a business used in the Dashboard was taken away.
- Five candidates checked against the marketplace (838 apps) and public asking. Disputes have the only real buyer pain, and that shelf is owned, by Stripe too. Pause, payments outside Stripe and activity logs have thin shelves and nobody asking. Failed payments is crowded. All five dropped. No case, no ask.
What I take from it: the method works where a platform takes something away from people who are not developers. Stripe's changelog is written for developers, and its removals are too. Not a source to sweep again.

Actual 2026-10-04 f: removals beyond Shopify, 31 found, none a case; Square's label printing is the lead
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-f.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, 58 of 90 requests. Kept:
scratch/sweep-removed-wide-2026-10.md.
- 31 removals since March, mostly consumer and developer ones found through HN, because the web search engine challenged after one request and five small-business forums failed. Most have no door: they live inside a browser, a device or a billing policy.
- The one that passed the agent's four tests is Gmail's end of "Send as" for other addresses in January 2027. I dropped it on reading: the replacement is any free mail client, Google says so, and the app would have to hold users' mail passwords.
- The most-viewed complaint found anywhere is Square's (18,701 views): an item option taken away from online stores, with merchants asking for their fees back. Its door looks shut, so it is parked.
- Two more Square threads on label printing (5,500 and 5,100 views) are the lead. A plan g reads them, the door, and the shelf.

Actual 2026-10-04 g: Square labels, a case that passes on buyer, door and money, and fails on reach
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-g.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, read-only, 46 of 60 requests. The
web search engine challenged; Square's marketplace renders only in a browser. Kept:
scratch/shelftag-case.md.
- 54 label topics since 2025-06, 99,698 views. The pain that is real: printing labels from a purchase order is Premium only ($149 a location a month, against Plus at $49), and the Free plan has no labels at all. The March Dashboard redesign added steps and stopped the quantity filling from stock.
- The door is open: Square's APIs are self-serve, the developer account is free, and item and stock-received reads cover everything a label needs.
- The marketplace is closed to new partners, so the app would have no shelf. That is where it fails.
The case is written and not proposed. Two facts are needed from the boss: does a Square account exist to post from, and how many label apps does the marketplace show?

- App Store rank, 11:07Z,
node tools/rank.mjs: demand planning #82, inventory forecast #129, size run #19, size curve #2, apparel inventory #35, sizecurve #1; category default sort not in the first 238, category newest #6. Against 10-02: small moves, and none that matters. This is the line the launch is read against on 10-07. - The Product Hunt copy in
listing/LAUNCH.mdagainst what is live: the listing link withutm_source=producthunt, the free check withvia=producthuntand the video all return 200. The live listing now carries what the description claims: "incoming" and "lead time" appear 3 times each, "net of returns" 11, "$29" 3. - **The free check turned people away 38 times (strangers' side), against 21 completed runs.** It looked like a leak before Tuesday, and it is not one I can show:
- 18 are for an email address that failed
validEmail(src/check.mjs:85). The field istype="email"(public/check.html:144), so a browser stops most malformed addresses before they are sent. What gets through is either sent outside the form or an address with no dot after the @. - 17 are the six-a-day limit per browser (src/worker.mjs:876). The 21 completed runs cover 11 stores, several of them household-name sites rather than merchants. - The first refusal is 2026-09-21 09:11Z. My own traffic was split out only from 09-22 02:10Z (splitSince), and before that the release gate's deliberately bad address counted as a stranger's (comment atsrc/worker.mjs:844). The counter keeps no times, so the pre-split share cannot be separated out. The last refusal was 10-02 14:32Z, none since. - Left as it is. A refusal counter with a timestamp per reason would answer this. It is not worth a release two days before the launch.

- Most of the 106 are thin for a reason that rules them out: a word matched in passing, one country's couriers, a theme widget, or a platform feature.
- Three are leads: EU guarantee notice labels (whole shelf under 50 reviews, typed in Dutch), the EU withdrawal button (typed in French and Dutch), and merging orders (leader at 75 reviews). Neither EU rule is confirmed yet from the EU's own text.
- One mistake by the agent, owned and fixed in the run: its own challenge check stopped on the search word "captcha"; the page was a normal 200 and was read again.

text. Notes kept in the scratchpad, not the repo (they carry listing details by position).
| Lead | The door | Shopify | The shelf | Asking | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EU guarantee notice and label | Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 from 2026-09-27, per the listings and topic 679112; unconfirmed from EU text | nothing native found | about 30 apps do it; the first ten all launched May to September 2026, 9 of 10 with a free plan, paid from $4.99 | one thread, 319 views; money only as "an expensive upgrade to Shopify Plus" for checkout | dropped: formed and racing to free |
| EU withdrawal button | Directive 2023/2673 from 2026-06-19 (Shopify's Help Center) | partly: self-serve cancellations through customer accounts | about 35 apps; leader 2,316 reviews, second 564, all ten free or with a free plan | large: 581844 has 7,696 views; one merchant pays 9 euros a month | dropped: led, and free |
| Merge orders | a gap, not a rule; a staff-titled reply (567404, 2025-09-24) calls the workaround "the best path that we have at the moment" | not shipped | about 12 apps; leaders from 2019 and 2021 have only 75 and 64 reviews | one on-topic thread since 2025, 666 views, no money named | dropped: a small market, not a new one |
What the search box got wrong as a filter: review counts lag a new rule by months. Both EU shelves read as thin by reviews and were full by count of apps doing the same thing.

POS custom fees: a help page exists, unread | 17 of 24 | six in 2026, others 2016 to 2025 | 192 reviews | 664518 (449 views), 606903 (372), 629454 (236); merchants name 22k and 35k dollars a year absorbed in card fees | dropped: the money is real, but the card fee by payment method is Plus-only for every app; the rest of the shelf is 17 apps, most new |
| Split order | Fulfillment splits are native (API, and automatic across locations since 2025-04); separate orders have no Shopify source | 13 of 24 | four in 2026, others 2020 to 2025 | 112 reviews | the top asks (605 and 353 views) are to stop a split or split a parcel by weight; two smaller topics want separate orders | dropped: small and contested; makers already reply in the threads |

Plan: plan/2026-10-04-p.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, 48 of 50 requests, all 200, 19:07 to
19:12 UTC. Twelve seller queries, 117 results, 36 listing pages opened.
The instrument works. A search page carries its results in the HTML (an embedded data block: users, unrounded rating, rating count, summary, category, manifest). A listing page carries "Updated", version, size and "Offers in-app purchases" as plain text. There is no suggestion endpoint visible without JavaScript, so what people type is not measurable.
No stale shelf. Of the 36 listings opened, 4 were last updated before 2025; the leaders on every busy shelf were updated in 2026, most in the last six weeks.
| Query | On-topic of ten | Median users | Stale or under 3.5 with many users |
|---|---|---|---|
| shopify | 10 | 7,500 | positions 1 and 4 rate 2.0 and 3.48 (30,000 and 20,000 users), both store-spy or developer tools, not merchant tools |
| etsy seller | 9 | 40,000 | none |
| amazon seller | 8 | 20,000 | position 1: 40,000 users, 3.36, last updated 2022-06 (alone) |
| shopify admin | 10 | 338 | none worth it: merchants do not look here |
| shipping label | 6 | 97 | position 1: 10,000 users, 1.62, updated 2026-09 |
| poshmark, product research, invoice generator, ebay seller, order export, inventory, price tracker seller | none |
Verdict. Dropped as a source of the next app for now. The money is in seller research and marketplace automation, where the leaders are busy, well rated and updated monthly. The tools that sit on a merchant's own Shopify admin have a few hundred users. The one stale leader (amazon seller, 2022) is a single listing, not a shelf.
The agent removed two scratch folders it had made under short names without first checking whether those names existed; nothing of mine was in them (my notes and briefs are all present). Briefs from now say: delete nothing.

Actual 2026-10-04 q: deadlines ahead; two thin shelves worth a second read
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-q.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, 37 of 60 requests, none blocked

| UK MTD for Income Tax, 30k pounds | 2027-04-06 (gov.uk) | filing runs in tax software | 0 | sole traders' tax, not a Shopify job; dropped |
| UK packaging EPR reporting | next 2027-04-01 for large and small (gov.uk) | packaging data every 6 months (large) or yearly (small); over 1m pounds turnover and 25 t | 2 UK-specific, launched 2026-07 and 2026-08, 0 reviews | read further |
| EU deforestation (EUDR) | 2026-12-30 large and medium, 2027-06-30 micro and small (EU) | proof goods are deforestation-free: cattle, wood, cocoa, soy, palm oil, coffee, rubber and derived goods | 4, launched 2026-05 to 2026-09, 0 reviews | read further |
Unconfirmed and left out: the UK subscription regime ("anticipate ... spring 2027"), the FTC negative-option rule (no compliance date), ESPR dates, US state privacy and packaging laws, Canada.
What the two leads still lack. Neither has asking yet. UK EPR is not new (data reporting since 2023), so a thin Shopify shelf after three years may mean merchants do it elsewhere, through a compliance scheme or a spreadsheet; that is the first thing to read. EUDR is new and its shelf is forming now, but its reach is narrow and was cut by the December 2025 amendment; what a small retailer must still do is the first thing to read.

Actual 2026-10-04 r: UK packaging EPR and EUDR both dropped; nobody is asking
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-r.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, 39 of 45 requests, none blocked (one
404 on an EU document download, not retried).
| UK packaging EPR | EUDR | |
|---|---|---|
| The load | one 15-column CSV per period (gov.uk "create your reporting file"); the shipping box is reportable as class P3; small producers yearly by 1 April, registration 1,216 pounds (631 through a compliance scheme); large every 6 months, plus disposal fees from 192 to 461 pounds a tonne | an SME retailer downstream keeps supplier and buyer records for 5 years and files nothing (green-forum.ec.europa.eu, roles and responsibilities); only importers file statements |
| From Shopify's data | units per variant per period, and nation from the shipping address | products, quantities, buyers |
| Typed by hand | packaging material and weight per variant and per box | which products are in scope, suppliers, reference numbers |
| Asking | none: no Community topic since 2024 on UK EPR or the file; EU EPR topics are makers researching | none: the one hit (673389, 73 views) is a maker's general question |
| Shelf | two apps that make exactly this file, launched 2026-07 and 2026-08, 0 reviews, 14.99 and 29 to 49 dollars a month | four, launched 2026-05 to 2026-09, 0 to 3 reviews, all with a free plan |
| Verdict | dropped: no asking, and the product already exists twice | dropped: a small retailer's load is record-keeping; no asking |
Both shelves are makers arriving ahead of merchants. A merchant big enough to owe the UK file (over 1m pounds and 25 tonnes) most likely already pays a compliance scheme (unconfirmed). Reading ahead found the dates, but the asking comes later or not at all.
Today's ideas, all read and dropped: EU guarantee labels, EU withdrawal button, merging orders, surcharges, split orders, the Chrome Web Store, UK packaging EPR, EUDR.

Actual 2026-10-04 s: abandoned WooCommerce plugins are rare, and the one big one has free heirs
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-s.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, 42 of 60 requests, all HTTP 200, none
blocked. Plugin slugs and makers stay out of the repo; jobs only.
The directory reads cleanly. The public plugin API gives active installs, rating,
last update, tested-up-to and two-month forum counts in one call; the tag query sorts by
installs (the browse=popular parameter ignores the tag). About 800 WooCommerce plugins
were read (the tag's top 500 and 289 more from search).
Stale and big is rare. Only 2 store-running plugins with 10,000+ installs had no release since before 2024-10. Six more qualified only on a low rating; they all ship code in 2026, and four of them, from one maker, have forums unanswered since about 2026-01. The rest were the platform's own, one-provider gateways or one company's connector, which only that company could replace.
| Job | Installs | Last release | Asking in its forum | Money named | Maintained same-job shelf | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brazilian tax-id checkout fields | 60,000 | 2024-02 | 10 threads in 14 months, 0 in the last two; fails on block checkout; asks about the new alphanumeric company id; author silent | none | 5 maintained, largest 5,000 installs, free; two already name the alphanumeric id | dropped: the shape fits, but asking is a trickle, nobody names money, and free heirs with the new id are arriving |
| Search products by SKU | 10,000 | 2021-07 | "do we need to find a replacement?" (2022, 0 replies) | none | search plugins at 70,000 to 100,000 installs list SKU search free | dropped: covered |
| Japanese addresses, payments, delivery | 10,000 | 2026-07 | author answers; regressions | none | none found under one wording | dropped: maintained and answered |
| Custom order statuses | 10,000 | 2026-09 | 3 newest unresolved | a Pro buyer could not get updates (no amount) | 5, largest 30,000 | dropped: owned |
| Live search, quotes, gift cards, subscriptions (one maker, free tiers) | 6,000 to 30,000 | 2026-08 to 10 | unanswered since about 2026-01 | a gift card over-deducting 10.50 euros | 5 to 13 each, leaders as big or bigger | dropped: a slow support desk, not an empty shelf |
A 60,000-install plugin gets about ten forum threads a year. Plugin forums carry asking, but in the volume of one Community thread, and where the directory is the shelf, the heir is free.
No case, so no "may I start building", and the WordPress.org account and Stripe questions are not asked.
Today's ideas, all read and dropped: EU guarantee labels, EU withdrawal button, merging orders, surcharges, split orders, the Chrome Web Store, UK packaging EPR, EUDR, abandoned WooCommerce plugins.

Actual 2026-10-04 t: the Community's top list read by job; one thin young shelf, supplier PDF catalogs
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-t.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, 47 of 70 requests, all HTTP 200. Then
two App Store searches by me.
The list. top.json quarterly (200) and monthly (100) gave 266 unique topics: 89
pains, 163 not (feedback, traffic, SEO and AI talk, makers), 14 unclear. Stocky and
reordering, our own ground, lead by far: 15 topics, 9,548 views. Next is a long tail;
no other job passes 1,700 views.
| Job | Views (topics) | Native? | Shelf, page one | Money | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Import supplier product data | 1,618 (4) | no change | file and feed importers, leader 1,719 reviews (2017); for PDF in, see below | none | read further: the PDF half |
| Landed cost per unit | 1,422 (3) | not per the thread (non-staff) | 6 to 9 cards, two of the three leaders launched 2026-07 and 2026-08 | none | dropped: the thread is makers talking to makers; filled since Stocky closed |

| Tracking after the 08-26 script cutoff | 1,307 (2) | Additional Scripts removed (thread, non-staff) | 6 cards, all 0 reviews, launched 2026-06 to 09 | none | dropped: a one-time migration, six makers already there |
| Bot traffic out of analytics | 1,102 (2); 11 topics since January | reports filter bots; the dashboard does not (non-staff) | 0 exact; storefront blockers lead (1,754) | none | dropped: an app cannot change Shopify's dashboard, and reports already filter |
| Wholesale price lists | 1,061 (1) | B2B is Plus-only | 16 of 24, leader 1,185 | "losing wholesale sales" | dropped: one app's eight-day outage, owned shelf |
Supplier PDF catalogs. Thread 653358 (642 views, 17 participants, 2026-07-21): "Some
of these documents contain hundreds of products, so manually creating or updating each
Shopify product one by one is extremely time-consuming." Post 19, a merchant, tried two
PDF-import apps: "One mixed up product and variant images; the other returned no images."
App Store pdf to products, page one: one card whose text says it turns supplier PDF
catalogs into products, 0 reviews; the other PDF cards make invoices, catalogs out of
products, or downloads. That is a thin, young shelf with a merchant who has already
tried and failed, which no lead today has had. Its asking is thin and maker-heavy so far,
so it is read further before any case (plan u).

Actual 2026-10-04 u: supplier PDF catalogs dropped; seven makers and one merchant
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-u.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, 41 of 60 requests; one 403 (Shopify's
help page, a challenge, not retried).
Correction to actual t. Post 19 of 653358 ("tested two PDF import apps") is from a new account asking discovery-style questions. Whether it is a merchant is unconfirmed.
Asking. One merchant: the opener of 653358, quiet since 2026-07-22 after trying an AI-made import ("not the greatest quality-wise"). One more from 2025-02 (395054, 234 views, PDF order forms that list only SKUs). Of 24 on-topic topics since 2025, 15 are opened by makers, many of them looking for "3 store owners" to talk to, offering pilots at 19 to 95 dollars. No merchant names a price. The busier supplier-spreadsheet threads (676989, 547 views; 683136, 299) are maker-opened too.
Shelf. Seven listings already take a PDF into products. Six launched in 2026 (03-16 to 08-12), one in 2025-09. Between them: 6 reviews, no complaint, cheapest paid tier 4.99 dollars a month. The search in actual t found one because the others' card text says "supplier files" or "any file". The suggestion endpoint offers no phrase like "pdf to products" or "supplier catalog": people do not type it.
Shopify. Nothing in the changelog since 2025 makes products from a file; the help page on the importer was a challenge.
Verdict: dropped. More makers than merchants, a shelf of seven at 0 reviews, and no typed demand. The same shape as the script cutoff and UK EPR: makers arrived first.

Actual 2026-10-04 v: Play work-tool shelves; the badly rated ones are companions, not open shelves
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-v.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, 71 of 75 requests, all HTTP 200: 40
searches, 21 app pages, 10 autocomplete calls.
Most shelves are good. 33 of 40 queries have a top three averaging 3.8 stars or better: invoices 4.83, estimates 4.67, tips 4.70, timesheets 4.33, route planning 4.60, construction estimates 4.70. Small-business paperwork on Play is served.
| Query | Leader installs | Mean of top three | What the low stars are | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pest control report | 10K+ (one 50K+) | 2.07 | login PIN not sent, scans broke after updates: companion apps to paid company systems (unconfirmed) | dropped: not an open shelf; people type "template", "pdf", "format" |
| Catering order app | 5K+ (one 10K+) | 2.55 | cannot create an account, logs out each launch | dropped: company apps; searches are mostly consumers ordering |
| Fence calculator | 1K+ | 3.00 (one app, 5 ratings) | no reviews at all | dropped: no votes, not a failure |
| Property inspection report | 10K+ | 3.30 | one bad app (2.1) beside a good one (4.5, 10K+) | dropped: served; searches want a template |
| Field notes app | 5K+ | 3.35 | logins, battery | dropped: thin, few work searches |
| Label maker | 500K+ | 3.45 | ads made to look like the app; free tier too locked | dropped: 27 on-topic apps; the complaint is about paying |
| Meter reading app | 100K+ | 3.63 | ads added, a paywall put on existing users | dropped: the buyer complains about paying |
Verdict: no case. Low stars on a work-tool shelf mostly mean a company's companion app behind a login, which a stranger's app cannot replace. Where the shelf is open and low (labels, meters), the reviews are against ads and paywalls: buyers who do not want to pay.
Today's ideas, all read and dropped: EU guarantee labels, EU withdrawal button, merging orders, surcharges, split orders, the Chrome Web Store, UK packaging EPR, EUDR, abandoned WooCommerce plugins, the Community's top jobs, supplier PDF catalogs, Play work tools.

Actual 2026-10-04 w: Square label apps counted; the case is dropped and its questions withdrawn
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-w.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, 16 page loads and 9 clicks in a
headless browser, all HTTP 200, no block, no login.
| Search | Results | Label apps |
|---|---|---|
| label | 12 | 2 |
| barcode | 7 | 2 |
| price tag | 112 | 2 |
| inventory labels | 100 | 2 |
| Items & Inventory category | 25 | 2 |
- A: $9.99 a month, 14-day trial, US. Barcode and price labels from the catalog, and a date filter "to print labels for newly received items", which was this case's sharp feature. 5 reviews (2025-05 to 2026-05), 4.8. Its maker also replies in the community threads with the price (actual g).
- B: $49.99 a month, food sold by weight with a scale. 7 reviews, the newest 2023-05.
- A third result sells digital shelf tags at $119 a month; it prints nothing.
Verdict: dropped. A has the listing, the feature and the replies in the threads, and
5 reviews in 16 months. The asking is 99,698 views of sellers, but few of them pay for a
label app, and we would start with no listing at all. scratch/shelftag-case.md is
updated. The Square questions to the boss are withdrawn.

The base rate
About 2,200 apps in those leaves were launched in 2026. 83% have no review. 13 have 20 or more, about 0.6%. In inventory optimization, Sizecurve's own category, none of the 2026 apps above page 16 has 20.
| Reviews | 2026 apps |

| Launched | Reviews | A month | Cheapest paid | What it does | Same-job shelf, page one | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Y1 | 05-06 | 103 | 20.6 | $7.99 | EU withdrawal button | 24 apps; leader 2,316 reviews |

| Y3 | 06-15 | 50 | 13.6 | $9.99 | one carrier's parcel-locker map in the cart, any plan | 5 apps; others 53, 51, 6, 0 |
| Y4 | 03-24 | 55 | 8.6 | billed by the ledger's maker | sales to one accounting ledger, by its own maker | 18 apps; leader 913 |
| Y5 | 05-14 | 37 | 7.8 | free | sync to one short-video platform's shop | 14 apps; the platform's own 15,992 |
The next eight run 2.5 to 4.8 a month: low-stock forecasting, bulk AI photos, Indian GST invoices, delivery-date pickers, one country's courier booking.
What it says (mine)
- For Sizecurve's kill date: a 2026 app with any review is in the top fifth. Zero paying by 10-20 is the common case, not a verdict on the listing alone; the criterion stands as written.
- The fast ones follow a push from outside, not a better tool on an open job: a law (Y1, the withdrawal button I dropped on 10-04 as a race already run, and it was: 24 apps), a platform tool ending (Y2, per a review and a rival's tagline, unconfirmed), or one outside network (Y3, Y4, Y5).
- Y3 is the only one on a thin shelf. A cart picker for one carrier's parcel lockers, $9.99 a month, 50 reviews in under four months, with 4 others doing it. The job is "this carrier's lockers, in the cart, on any plan". Each locker network is its own small shelf. Read next: which networks have such an app, and which have none.
Unconfirmed: whether any of the 13 is a relaunch that kept a following, whether reviews were asked for in the app, and the 21 leaves not read.
<!-- 2026-10-04-y.md -->
Actual 2026-10-04 y: parcel lockers; checkout pickup points are Plus-only for apps, so the cart picker is a lasting gap
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-y.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, 95 of 150 requests. Seven operator
sites blocked or failed (403, challenge, no connection), recorded and not retried; no
App Store or shopify.dev page was blocked.
The platform (shopify.dev, quoted)
- Pickup point delivery option generator Function: "Only custom apps installed on either development stores or stores on the Shopify Plus plan have access ... Public apps in the Shopify App Store and custom apps built for stores on non-Plus plans don't have access." It is still in the unstable API version only. (shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/checkout/delivery-shipping/delivery-methods/generate-pickup-points)
- "Checkout UI extensions for the information, shipping, and payment steps are available only to stores on a Shopify Plus plan." (shopify.dev/docs/api/checkout-ui-extensions)
- So on Basic, Grow and Advanced, an App Store app can let a buyer pick a locker only in the cart, on the product page, or after payment. The plan's drop condition (pickup points at checkout on every plan) is not met.
The young app (Polish lockers, launched 06-15)
50 reviews, all five stars, the newest 09-30: still arriving. Free for 5 orders a month, then $9.99, $19.99, $49.99. Reviewers name what they had before: apps that let the buyer choose only after paying ("On Basic we had no CCS"), a higher plan, Plus for a map, buyers looking up locker codes themselves, manual labels. A rival for the same network needs carrier-calculated shipping, which Basic lacks.
25 networks (no names; numbered in the agent's notes)
| Network | Points | Dedicated pickers, reviews | Network's own app |
|---|---|---|---|
| PL lockers | 32,564 | 53, 51, 50 (the young one) | yes, 3.2 and 1.9 stars |
| DE lockers and post stations | 19,000+ | 4, 2, 0, 0 | labels only |
| UK lockers | 15,784 | 0 | yes, checkout (Plus-bound) |
| CZ points and lockers | 10,000+ | 85 | no |
| UK shops and lockers | 9,000+ | 3 | yes, checkout |
| FR points and lockers | unconfirmed | 109 (checkout map on the Plus tier) | third party |
| HU lockers | 5,008 listed | 0, but 9 multi-carrier apps | no |
Eighteen more were read; most have a free network app in checkout or after payment, point counts unconfirmed. Only the PL network has a cart picker with traction.
What it says (mine)
- The gap is structural: Plus-only checkout means every non-Plus merchant who ships to lockers needs a cart picker, and a good one earned 50 reviews in four months.
- Open by shelf: DE lockers (19,000 points, best picker 4 reviews), UK lockers (15,784, none), UK shops and lockers (9,000+, 3). The DE list API needs a key; the UK locker list is public.
- Not yet known, and the case needs it: whether merchants on those networks ask for this (their threads, by role), and whether Shopify's own shipping already offers those networks' points natively ("unless merchants are in specific regions and want to use selected carrier services that Shopify already integrates with").
Unconfirmed: point counts for most networks, cart versus checkout for most apps, and whether multi-carrier apps cover each network.
<!-- 2026-10-04-z.md -->
Actual 2026-10-04 z: the three locker networks fail; Shopify says native lockers are coming, so the idea is dropped
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-z.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, 59 of 80 requests. help.shopify.com
challenged once (pickup points page), one UK carrier site blocked, one developer site
did not connect; recorded, not retried.
| DE lockers | UK lockers | UK shops and lockers | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Merchant openers since 2024 | 2 (topics 351621, 306906; 123 and 163 views) | 0 | 0 |
| Native in Shopify | none found | none found | yes, Shopify Shipping pickup at its shops (plan unconfirmed) |
| Pickers | 4: reviews 4, 2, 0, 0; one launched 2026-04 claims checkout | carrier's own, free | carrier's own, free |
| Locker list | keyed API, 500 calls a day; terms bar storing the data and showing its points without other carriers' | open list with no key, terms not found; the documented API needs the carrier's integration team | none public |
Shopify is closing the gap itself. Staff, topic 591698 post 2, 2026-03-12: "You can expect to see a large increase in carriers on Shopify that support pickup locations and lockers in the second half of 2026 and beyond." shopify.dev already says pickup points are in early access "for specific stores that have eligible fulfillment locations and use eligible Shopify Shipping carriers", and one UK network is there now.
Verdict (mine). Dropped. None of the three passes asking, no native option, and a list we may use. Behind them all, Shopify has said it will add lockers natively, so a cart picker for a network is a shelf with a date on it, like the law-driven ones in actual x. The Polish picker's 50 reviews stand; its network is taken.
Merchants on Basic and Grow do ask for a locker choice before payment in several countries (topics 680547, 381206, 569617, 591698, 637819), but each is a single post with tens to hundreds of views, and 8 to 13 multi-carrier apps already sit on those networks' searches.

The withdrawal-button apps hold 3,446 reviews between them. The leader launched 01-09, five months before the date, and has 2,316.
Without a push the young winners sit on crowded jobs: combined listings (24 of 24 on page one, leaders 449 and 439), AI chat (leaders 1,869 and 1,350), subscriptions (8,917), cash-on-delivery forms (2,498). The thinnest was deposit payments: 6 dedicated apps, leaders 145, 98, 96.
What it says (mine)
- This corrects actual 10-04 (EU labels, withdrawal button dropped as races already run). They were races, and they were the biggest wins of the year for the apps that launched months before the date. Dropping them at the date was right; looking for them only at the date was the mistake.
- The instrument for a next case is a calendar: rules with a date 6 to 15 months ahead that put something on a small shop's product page, cart or order flow, read before the shelf forms.
- A network plug-in was not faster than a plain tool, so actual x's third push is weak.
Unconfirmed: the two laws' dates (read from listings, not the law), relaunches, and in-app review prompts.

Verdict (mine)
No case. The rules with a date ahead and many small shops bound are tax: e-invoicing and reporting through certified software or approved platforms, with fines on the software. That is regulated work for a maker that can certify and carry the liability, not a small storefront element like the withdrawal button or the warranty label, and the shelves have already started (Spain 7, France 11). The credit warning is seven weeks away and probably binds lenders. The UK subscription regime has no date and belongs to the subscription apps.
Not read: US state rules, Australia, Canada. A second pass on those needs a search route the brief did not allow (state legislature sites only).

s48A, read myself in the Act's text (legislation.gov.au, C2026A00064)
A person who "displays a base price" must display, "each time a base price is displayed", "while the base price is displayed", "in close proximity to the base price" and in a "legible, prominent and unambiguous way", for any transaction based charge: its amount (or the method if it cannot be calculated), that it is per transaction, whether it is or may be payable, and whether the base price includes it.
A transaction based charge is any charge payable by the purchaser, not for the goods themselves, payable at the same time as the goods. Excluded: charges "payable at the option of the purchaser", payment surcharges, taxes and levies on the supplier, and any charge regulations later prescribe.
What it says (mine)
- A delivery fee an online shop charges on every order reads as a transaction based charge on the Act's words: paid by the buyer, not for the goods, paid at the same time. Not confirmed: whether a fee the buyer can avoid by choosing pickup is "optional", and whether regulations will exclude delivery. The explanatory memorandum was blocked.
- If delivery counts, every Australian shop that charges delivery and shows prices without it, on product pages, collection grids and the cart, needs a line beside each price. That is a storefront element an app can add on any plan, nine months before the date, with no app doing it. It is the withdrawal-button pattern of actual aa, early.
- Next: confirm the delivery question from Treasury, ACCC and the memorandum, count Australian shops, and read what themes show beside prices today.
<!-- 2026-10-04-ad.md -->
Actual 2026-10-04 ad: Australia's drip pricing rule binds delivery fees on its words, but it is not settled; parked to 11-04
Plan: plan/2026-10-04-ad.md. One Opus 5.5 agent, 17 of 20 web searches, 86 of 90 page
requests. The explanatory memorandum (parliament site) gave 403 again, and two ACCC pages
gave 403; recorded, not retried. Treasury's consultation pages rendered no documents, so
the exposure draft itself was not read.
Does a delivery fee count: on the words yes, in force not settled
- The Act (s48A(7), (8)) has no delivery exclusion. The exposure draft had one ("a charge that is payable in relation to sending goods from the supplier to the purchaser"), quoted by an industry group's submission, which asks for it back.
- The Senate Economics committee's report (aph.gov.au, Unfair Trading Bill 2026, ch. 2, 2.95 to 2.99): several bodies, among them the national retail body and the small-business body, said retailers "may be required to display delivery charges, or a method for calculating those charges, close to the base price across product listings". The committee took no side and asked the ACCC to "prioritise development of regulatory guidance" (Recommendation 3). The bill passed with no amendment.
- Still open: a regulation under s48A(8)(e) could exclude delivery (none found); a pickup option may make delivery "payable at the option of the purchaser"; free-delivery thresholds are not addressed anywhere read. The ACCC's guidance is the answer, and it is not out.
- Treasury's impact statement (Dec 2025) counted 326,737 affected businesses and expected e-commerce platforms to "update … their own service offerings to be compliant".
Twenty Australian Shopify shops (apparel, beauty, home, food), read 10-05
- A delivery amount beside the price: 0 of 20.
- A shipping note with no amount beside the price: 3 ("Shipping calculated at checkout", the default theme's line, twice; "incl. GST plus Shipping" once).
- A delivery amount somewhere lower on the product page (tab, FAQ): 5.
- A free-delivery threshold shown on the page: 17. Standard fees found: 7 shops, $7.95 to $22 flat per order under a threshold of $50 to $200. Two shops' banners and policies disagree on the threshold.
What an app can do (shopify.dev)
- An app block can sit in the product page's main section on Online Store 2.0 themes, placed by the merchant. Collection cards, the cart drawer and vintage themes would need an app embed's script; not confirmed as supported.
- Flat rates and their conditions are readable from delivery profiles (method definitions, rate conditions); the exact read scope was not confirmed. Carrier-calculated rates can only be shown as "a method for calculating".
- The theme's own "Shipping calculated at checkout" text cannot be changed by a public app without a write_themes exemption.
Shops and asking
- Live Shopify stores in Australia: 118,362 to 138,183 by three trackers (10-02 to 10-04).
- Community: no topic mentions the law. Eight topics since 2024 ask how to show shipping cost on the product page, by Australian merchants among others, with custom code as the answer.
- App Store: no app shows a delivery fee beside the price. Shipping calculators lead the search (1,246 and 443 reviews) and show a calculator box, not a line beside every price.
Mine
- The door is real on the Act's words: about 120,000 Australian shops, a flat fee most of them charge, none showing it beside the price, nine months to go, an empty shelf.
- It is not settled. Industry asked for the delivery exclusion back, the Act lets a regulation restore it, and the ACCC is writing guidance. A case built now would rest on what the ACCC has not said, and today no merchant is asking (§1 Demand).
- The 2026 winners launched one to five months before their dates, so waiting for the guidance costs little: it is time enough if the guidance comes by about 2027-02.
- Parked. On 2026-11-04 and then monthly I read the ACCC's pricing pages, Treasury's consultations and the legislation register for s48A guidance or an (8)(e)
regulation. If delivery is confirmed in, I write
scratch/driptag-case.mdthat day. If it is excluded, dropped. With nothing by 2027-01-04, I decide on the words alone.

Actual 2026-10-04 ae: the launch-day readings, run once ahead of Tuesday
No plan file: read-only measurements and one probe of my own, no build, no agent.
Plan c's readings had never been run end to end with a producthunt tag. This run checks
that they work before the day, instead of on it.
- Pages. The listing,
/check,/and/check?via=producthuntall answer 200. - The tag reaches the counter. The check page forwards its query string to
/api/check(public/check.js,api()), and the deployed branch's whitelist (LINK_SOURCESinsrc/views.mjs) includesproducthunt. One check of my own, run as?via=producthunt&sc=selfon a large public store already among my probes: 200, and check-stats movedselfSources.producthuntfrom 0 to 1. Strangers' runs stayed at 21, andsourcesstayed empty. So a launch visitor's check will be counted undersources.producthunt, and mine never are. - Referrer. A visit arriving from producthunt.com with no tag lands in its own
producthuntbucket on the arrivals page, not inother. - Baseline for Tuesday. Stranger checks: 21 runs on 11 hosts,
sourcesempty. Stranger refusals: 38, the last on 10-02; the 18 underemailare my old probes from before the 09-22 fix (actual 09-29 x). Installs: 1, ours.
Plan c stands as written. Its 12:00 reading of "producthunt as a source on checks" can only read nonzero if a visitor runs a check, and the wire for it is now proven.
