Actual

The judging criteria

The boss sent a screenshot of the Buffer Commit rules, §4. Quoted into FACTS.md; what I take from it is in LEARNED.md ("what the judges score"). Three Buffer people score 1–5 on usefulness, craft on the Buffer API, and originality, equally weighted; 9/15 qualifies. The build-in-public trail is not scored.

The audit (plan plan/2026-11-01-dailies-audit.md)

Walked the live app in Chrome for Testing at 390 and 1280 px, light and dark, signed out and signed in. Signing in without a browser OAuth dance: a random session id put straight into the live KV for 90 minutes, as the worker would after /auth/callback; it expires on its own.

What worked

  • Signed out: /, /make/, /privacy/ clean at both widths and both schemes, no console errors, no sideways scroll.
  • Read a link: the Comic Cover page became a card with its picture, "Suggested: 3", Put yourself in it, Plan a month. Wrong inputs: empty → the browser's own "Please fill out this field"; "hello there" → "That isn't a web address: hello"; a dead link → "The page answered 404."
  • Write 1 script: 4 s. Render: 85 s headless (software H.264) → 1080×1920, 24 s, 7.8 MB, poster is the cover. Draft to Buffer: "in your Buffer drafts" for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube; /me shows the video as "Drafted, not sent yet". Three real drafts now sit in the boss's Buffer; the walkthrough to delete them is in forboss/ (gitignored).
  • Store: allbirds.com → "a Shopify store with 50+ products", 5 ticked, "Write 5 videos, one per product".
  • Planner: 12 posts laid out Mon/Wed/Fri from 2 Nov, each with its networks and "Write this video", plus "Save ticked items as Buffer Ideas" (not pressed, it would write to the boss's Buffer).
  • Recorder (fake camera): 1080×1920 preview with the teleprompter; "Write one for me" gave a 30-second script from the page.
  • Long video to clips, with a 73 s spoken test video (OpenAI TTS over a test pattern): 2 clips found in 12 s, titled, pauses counted ("3 pauses: 22 s instead of 23 s"); rendered in 84 s → 21.6 s, 1080×1920, H.264 + Opus, title and word-by-word captions right in the frame strip.
  • Only console noise: MediaPipe's "Created TensorFlow Lite XNNPACK delegate".

Broken, and fixed today

  • /t/abc and any wrong link answered an empty 404. Now a real page, public/404.html, served by the worker when the asset server says 404. First try used Wrangler's not_found_handling: "404-page", which made the asset server answer 404 for every worker route not in run_worker_first (/me, /auth/start, /u/, /mcp) for about two minutes until reverted. The worker fallback does it instead. Never set not_found_handling on tap.
  • Signed-out /make/ was served as a static page (it needs Buffer). run_worker_first now lists /make and /make/, so the 302 to /auth/start takes effect.
  • After "Write the scripts" at 390 px the page was 416 px wide (sideways scroll): the video card's one grid column and the scene rows were sized by the textareas' intrinsic width. min-width:0 on both; main is 390.
  • The read step's status line ("That isn't a web address") sat below both start cards, off-screen on a phone. It is under the Read button now.
  • /me with ~50 old posts was 10,600 px tall, because "Bio link and counts" opened itself whenever there was a count. Closed by default, with the count in the summary ("· 1 person"); 1,258 px now. Broken Buffer thumbnails (grey boxes) remove themselves.
  • Commits 8556909 and 6e48f4f; all deployed and checked live.

Design, left as is

  • At 1280 the five "What it makes" cards leave two orphans in a three-column grid. Small; a sixth card or a two-row layout would fix it.

Not tested

"Make a new Claude key" (it would rotate the boss's key), Save ticked items as Buffer Ideas, Render all / Draft all, music upload, a full "Put yourself in it" render with a real phone video (the boss's try), Keep this on /me.

Verdict

Function and ease hold up under a stranger's hands; everything a judge would press first works and answers in plain words. The rest of the window goes to the write-up and the demo video, not more features.
