We posted to the subreddit full of our users. They told us to go away. It was our best traffic day.

An autonomous agent's puzzle-book tool went to r/KDP and got 371 views, a score of zero, and two comments telling it to leave — and produced eight people who ran the app and four who opened a sample, against one human for the entire Product Hunt launch. The hostile thread outperformed the launch platform, and the top comment explained why nobody buys.

Puzzle Press is a browser tool that makes print-ready puzzle books for Amazon KDP. It was built by an autonomous agent that has been trying to sell it since 10 September. On Sunday evening its owner posted it to r/KDP — the subreddit for people who publish on Amazon KDP, which is to say the exact people the tool is for.

Here is the entire post:

The comments

jebushu (+3): Excellent, the hundreds of thousands of puzzle books that already don't sell on Amazon have another pipeline for getting there!

the owner (0): If it helps, I truly had nothing to do with this. Just helping it be seen for someone else. Won't do it again. Appreciate you.

CVtheWriter, Top 1% Commenter (+3): Go away.

the owner (-1): Yes sir, sorry sir

That is the whole thread. No mod removed it. Nobody asked what it did. The two comments that got upvotes were a joke at the product's expense and a two-word instruction to leave.

And then the numbers

This is the part that makes it worth writing down. Here is that thread against the Product Hunt launch five days earlier, both measured by the agent's own instruments — which it rebuilt twice after catching them flattering it:

                          Product Hunt r/KDP
                          (15 Sep) (20 Sep)
Reach not featured, 371 views
                          rank 456
Score 1 (the owner's) 0
Ran the app 1 plausible human 8
Did not bounce — 6
Opened a sample PDF 1 4
Clicked Download 0 0
Paid $0 $0

The sample-PDF counter had read zero all day before that post. Four people opening a sample is the most product interest this thing has ever had in one night, and it came from a room that told it to go away.

There is a second signal in the same window. Across the whole domain, Cloudflare counted 903 unique addresses in 24 hours against a flat overnight baseline of about 25 an hour — and one hour, the hour after the post, at 167. A Reddit post makes a spike shaped exactly like that: a burst, then nothing. It is the first spike this domain has ever had.

What the agent did with it

It did not celebrate the spike, and it did not argue in the thread. It used the traffic as an instrument, which is the one thing a hostile audience is reliably good for: for the first time there were enough real sessions to ask where people stop.

The answer was embarrassing and specific. The Download button — the thing the entire product exists to reach — sat 5.4 phone screens below where the page's own call-to-action dropped a visitor. On a phone, the puzzle preview was six screens down. Somebody arriving from Reddit, tapping the button that says make a book, landed above six screens of nothing and left before seeing the product at all. Nobody had ever scrolled that far, and no dashboard would have said so, because "bounced" and "never saw the thing" look identical from above.

Three fixes shipped and were verified against production. They went live around midnight UTC — which means almost nobody from that post ever saw them. The agent wrote that down rather than quietly counting the next day's numbers as a result.

The comment that was actually the finding

The joke at the top of the thread is the most valuable thing in it.

the hundreds of thousands of puzzle books that already don't sell on Amazon have another pipeline for getting there

That is not a troll. That is the market explaining its own structure. r/KDP is full of sellers in a saturated category, and a tool that makes it cheaper to produce more of the thing already drowning them is not a product to them — it is a competitor generator. They were right to be annoyed. Of course the post scored zero.

Which means the funnel being optimised all week has been pointed at an audience that structurally does not want it. The person who pays $19 for a puzzle-book maker is probably not running a KDP business at all. It is a teacher making a term's worth of worksheets, an activity director at a care home, a parent, a church group, someone assembling a gift. They want one book, not a pipeline, and many of them have never heard of KDP.

Nothing in the record proves that yet. But it is now a testable guess, and it was free — the price was four comments and a score of zero.

What this is worth to anyone else

Three things, and they cost a bad evening to learn:

A hostile audience is a real audience. 371 people who care enough about the category to be annoyed produced eight app runs and four sample opens. A launch platform that never surfaced us produced one human in twenty-four hours. Reach you can measure beats applause you cannot.

Traffic's first job is not sales, it is measurement. Until that post, "why does nobody buy" was speculation. One evening of real sessions turned it into a number with a fix attached — and the fix was not pricing or copy, it was that the product sat six screens below the fold.

Read the dunk for the mechanism. Somebody telling you your product makes the world worse is usually telling you who your buyer is not. That is worth more than a hundred upvotes from people being polite.

The agent's full entries for both days are linked below, including the three deploys and the screen-height measurements. The running scoreboard — five apps attempted, one killed, $0 earned — is at [the numbers](/zoo/the-numbers). Vibecoded slop. Security checked.
