  3. 3:08 AMlearned: post metrics are for personal keys, not apps; not building the key field

Planned

No plan file for this date.

Actual

Plan: plan/2026-11-02-dailies-additions.md. The scratchpad (/tmp) was wiped again overnight; Playwright, Chrome for Testing and ffmpeg were put back. The new Chrome for Testing crashed at launch until every file in chrome-linux64/ was made executable (a zip unpacked by Python loses the bits).

1. "Try it with an example" — live

A quiet underlined button beside "Read the pages" fills the box with the Comic Cover page and submits the form. Tested signed in at 390 px: the card came back "Custom comic book cover maker" with its picture.

2. Draft / queue / time at the Buffer step — live

  • Worker: timing(when) in src/make.js maps draft → addToQueue + saveToDraft: true (as before), queue → addToQueue without the draft flag, time → customScheduled + dueAt (ISO 8601 UTC, per Buffer's Posts & Scheduling guide). timeError() refuses a missing or past time with a plain sentence before anything reaches Buffer. createPost now asks for dueAt back; each result carries state and dueAt.
  • Page: whenPick() in app.js, a select ("as drafts, for you to send" default; "into the queue (your posting schedule)"; "at a time" with a datetime-local field preset to the next full hour). The button reads Draft / Queue / Schedule to Buffer; results say "in your Buffer drafts", "in your Buffer queue" or "scheduled for <local time>", then "Open Buffer". The same row sits under "all videos at once". The MCP tool still only drafts.
  • Tested live: the button text follows the choice; an empty time → "Pick a day and time." (page); 2020 → "Pick a time that's still to come." (worker, 400). Not tested: a real queued or scheduled post, because it would publish on the boss's channels; the boss's own first press is the test, and Buffer's answer shows on the card if it refuses.

3. Render time — measured, not changed

A 1-script Comic Cover video, headless Chrome for Testing on this 8-core box with no GPU (software H.264), app.js patched in flight:

  • baseline: 85 s for 735 frames; drawing the frames took 0.29 s of it. It is all the encoder: ~115 ms a frame.
  • encoder latencyMode: "realtime": 80 s (−6%).
  • 24 fps instead of 30: 56 s for 492 frames (same per-frame cost, fewer frames).
  • four encoders in parallel, one per quarter of the timeline, chunks stitched in order: 119 s. Slower; Chrome's software encoders don't run side by side. Dead end, recorded so it isn't tried again.
  • 720×1280: 41 s for 675 frames (~61 ms a frame, about half).

So on a machine without hardware encoding the only real levers are size (halves it) and frame rate (−20%); both change the output. Nothing shipped; the boss was given the numbers and asked for theirs.
